Baby Car Seat with ISOFIX

An ISOFIX base connects directly to your car’s ISOFIX anchor points, making installation quick and straightforward. It also helps reduce the chance of fitting the seat incorrectly, while indicators on compatible bases let you know when everything is securely installed.  Whether you are looking for an isofix car seat, always check compatibility with your vehicle.

Learn what ISOFIX is, read our ISOFIX guide for parents or see how to fit an ISOFIX base or car seat.

Don’t have ISOFIX in your car? Many Maxi-Cosi baby car seats can also be installed safely using your vehicle’s 3-point seat belt. Always follow the instruction manual and check that the seat is compatible with your car.

If you are looking for a non isofix car seat, vehicle seat belt installation is available on Coral Slide Pro, Pebble Slide Pro, Emerald 360 S, Pearl XL Slide Pro and many others.

ISOFIX 360° Car Seat

A 360° rotating baby car seat turns towards the car door, making it easier to place your baby in the seat, fasten the harness and lift them out again. This can help reduce awkward bending and reaching during everyday journeys.  You may also see these described as a 360 car seat, swivel car seat or rotating infant car seat.

For many infant carriers, the rotation comes from a compatible ISOFIX base, which is usually sold separately. Other car seats have the rotating base built in. Selected bases can also slide the car seat towards you for even easier access.

Always check which base is compatible with your chosen car seat.

Lie-Flat Car Seat

Many Maxi-Cosi baby car seats recline into a lie-flat position, helping support a more natural and comfortable position for your newborn. Depending on the model, an infant car seat lie flat option can be used in the car, on a compatible pushchair or in both settings. If you are looking at a reclining car seat, check which recline positions are approved for your chosen model.

Safety Harness

Depending on the model, Maxi-Cosi car seats use either a secure three-point or five point car seat harness. Both are designed as part of the car seat’s safety system to help keep your baby correctly positioned and protected. Learn how a car seat with five point harness helps keep your child safe.

To keep the cover, harness and seat fresh without damaging any of the safety components, always follow the care instructions for your specific model. Read our guide about how to clean baby car seat fabrics and components.

Which Seat Is Right for Your Baby’s Age?

Your baby’s age is a helpful guide, but their height, weight and fit in the seat are more important when deciding which car seat is right for them.  If you are wondering when to remove the newborn insert of the car seat, always follow the instructions for your specific model.

From birth

Choose a rearward-facing newborn car seat or a from-birth car seat approved for your baby’s height. Read our guide to choosing your first baby car seat.  This is a useful starting point if you are looking for a newborn car seat.

6 months+

Most babies can continue using their current rearward-facing baby car seat while they remain within its approved limits. A 360° rotating seat or base can make getting your baby in and out easier.  If you are searching for a car seat for 6-month-old or baby car seat 6 months plus, the same rule applies: check the seat’s approved limits.

12 months+

There’s no need to move your baby to the next stage just because they’ve reached their first birthday. Keep using their current car seat until they reach its approved height or weight limit.  For a car seat 12 months plus or 1 year old car seat, choose based on your child’s size and the seat limits rather than age alone. The same applies when choosing a car seat for 18 month old.

Looking for a longer-lasting option?

Consider a car seat designed to grow with your child, whether that’s from baby to toddler or all the way from birth to approximately 12 years. Explore car seats that grow with your baby.  This can include a car seat newborn to toddler, an infant toddler car seat or 360 car seat 0-12 years designed for several stages.

The Importance of Rearward-Facing Travel

Your baby should travel in a rearward-facing position until they’re at least 15 months old—and for longer if their car seat allows. In a collision, a rearward-facing seat supports your baby’s head, neck and back together.

Read our guide to rearward- and forward-facing car seat rules. It also explains when can baby face forward in car seat under current guidance.

R129 Car Seat

All Maxi-Cosi baby car seats in our current range comply with R129, the latest European car seat safety standard. An i-Size car seat uses your child’s height as the main guide, includes side-impact testing and requires babies to travel rearward-facing until at least 15 months old.

Read more about R129 and i-Size, understand the difference between R44 and R129, or see the latest UK car seat laws and rules.  This includes practical guidance on car seat laws uk requirements.
