Maxi-Cosi Car Seats

All our Maxi-Cosi car seats are designed and manufactured with you and your family in mind. Because we value your family’s safety, many of our car seats are thoroughly tested by independent safety organisations like ADAC. We make sure you can travel carefree, from that first ride home from the hospital with a Baby Car Seat up to primary school in a Child Car Seat. No matter your situation, we have a car seat for you.

What type of car seat do I need?

When it comes to travel legislation across Europe, there are two safety standards you should be aware of: R44 and R129/i-Size. Children up to the age of 12 years old (or under a set height) should always travel in a car seat that meets one of these approved standards.

If you're unsure where to start, our Car Seat Advisory Tool can help you find the perfect match for your family.

What is the i-Size car seat standard?

The i-Size car seat standard, also known as R129, is the latest safety regulation. It focuses on your child’s height rather than weight when choosing the right seat. Usually, parents are more aware of the length of their child than their weight. This means that i-Size makes it easier to be sure you are using the right car seat for your child. Read more about i-Size here.

What is the ECE R44/04 standard?

The R44 standard categorises seats based on your child’s weight rather than their height. These are divided into specific groups to ensure a safe fit as your child grows:

• Group 0+: From birth up to 13 kg

• Group 1: From 9 kg to 18 kg

• Group 2/3: From 15 kg to 36 kg (typically up to 12 years old)

While these seats are suitable for children from birth onwards, R44/04 products are being phased out in favour of the more modern i-Size standard. i-Size car seats are designed to be safer than R44 models, particularly in head and neck protection.

ISOFIX vs. Seat Belt: Which is safer?

Using ISOFIX minimises the risk of incorrect installation by providing a solid, 'click-and-go' connection to the metal anchors in your car. While our belted car seats are just as safe when installed correctly, ISOFIX offers extra peace of mind.

Some of our ISOFIX car seats also feature SlideTech® technology, allowing the seat to slide smoothly towards you when placing or removing your child. This makes everyday use easier, reduces strain on your back, and helps ensure your child is correctly positioned every time.

What are the rules and ages for forward- and rear-facing car seat travel?

The rules and recommended ages for rear- and forward-facing car seat travel depend on the safety standard your car seat follows. Under the older ECE R44/04 regulation, children are legally allowed to travel forward-facing from 9 kg (around 9 months old). However, under the newer R129/i-Size standard, children must travel rearward-facing until at least 15 months of age, as this position offers better protection for the head, neck and spine in the event of a collision.

Is i-Size the same as R129 car seats?

R129 is the latest European safety regulation for car seats. i-Size is a specific category within R129 that ensures a seat is compatible with i-Size-approved vehicle seating positions and meets stricter installation and side-impact protection standards.

Maxi-Cosi car seats are engineered to exceed R129 standards by featuring an always-on G-Cell side impact protection structure, built into the seat’s side panels and headrest to help spread impact forces in the event of a side collision.

What are ADAC tested car seats?

ADAC tested car seats are car seats that have been independently assessed by ADAC, one of Europe’s most trusted automobile and consumer safety organisations. ADAC tests car seats beyond regulatory requirements, evaluating areas such as crash safety, ease of use, ergonomics and material safety.

Maxi-Cosi baby and toddler models such as the Pebble 360 Pro², Mica 360 Pro and Pearl 360 Pro have received an amazing score of “Good” in their respective categories, while child seats like the RodiFix Pro² i-Size have also achieved a top score of “Good”.
