The Car Fitting List is a non-exhaustive list of cars in which the AxissFix/AxissFixPlus can be installed. This list is regularly updated on our website. In the case you don't find your car, it can mean that the fitting test with your car has not be done yet. Then, we invite you to check the instructions in your vehicle’s manual, and contact our Customer Care team to check if the AxissFix/AxissFix Plus can fit your car.

I notice that there is a gap between the 2wayFix and my vehicle bench. Is this safe?
This happens in some vehicles configurations where the ISOFIX anchorages are positioned high compared to the vehicle bench. As long as the 2 ISOFIX connectors and the support leg of the 2wayFix are engaged correctly (respective indicators green), this is safe. The support leg can also be adjusted in height in order to reduce the gap. This gap does not affect safety in any case and it is not allowed to fill the gap in any way whatsoever.
Is ISOFIX safer than installing with a car seat belt?
ISOFIX prevents incorrect installation of the car seat while with seat belt installed car seats are often installed incorrectly. The safety score though is not neccesarily better with ISOFIX installed child car seats.
Is it possible to install a car seat on the front passenger seat?
Although the rear seat of the car is preferable, infant and child car seats can often be placed on the passenger seat as well. An infant car seat for 0-12 months may only be used on the front passenger seat if there is no frontal airbag or if you are sure that it has been deactivated. For car seats for older children (12 months to 12 year), if the front seat is equipped with an airbag, we recommend placing the seat in the rearmost position.
Is it safe to use second-hand car seats?
We advise against purchasing a used car seat. The history of a second-hand car seat is often unknown. In other words, you cannot know for certain how it has been used. Car seats that have been involved in an accident are no longer guaranteed to be safe. The car seat may also be damaged in some other manner or may be incomplete.
My car has a floor storage compartment that prohibits correct installation of the support leg, what can I do?
We advise you to check the manual of your car if any information is provided. Otherwise you can contact your car dealer to assess options. It might be possible to place the leg at the bottom of the storage compartment or place the support leg on top of it. Some car brands also sell storage compartment filling material.
My toddler looks very small in this large seat, how can I provide him extra comfort?
The Maxi-Cosi AxissFix is designed for children from 45cm length (birth) up to 105 cm (approx. 4years) and the AxissFix Plus is designed for children from birth to 105cm. Ater removing the newborn inlay from the AxissFix Plus or when simply using the AxissFix, you may want an additional inlay to provide extra comfort for your toddler. You can then add the AxissFix Plus/AxissFix Comfort Cushion accessory (sold separately). Made of a super soft Koala fabric, it will help to reduce the seat depth and width, and bring high level of comfort to your toddler up to approximately 6/8 months old.
The harness belts do not have the same length on the right- and left-hand side. How can this be?
Uneven harness belts length may be caused by an incorrect guidance of the harness system. Please check at the back of the car seat that the harness is not twisted and that the pull belt (that runs forward at the bottom of the shell) is in the middle of the system. Also check that the belt can move easily through the shoulder openings. For smooth movement, the harness buckle should be flapped forward completely since this harness buckle releases the belt tensioner. If the problem continues, please consult your retailer or contact our consumer service.
The AxissFix/AxissFix Plus complies with i-Size (R129) regulation. What does that mean?
i-Size (R129) is a new European regulation, active from July 2013, that aims at increasing children safety in car by supporting rearward facing travelling up to at least 15 months, promoting universal ISOFIX installation, and improving safety standards for additional protection for head and neck.
What is ISOFIX? How does it work?
ISOFIX is an international standardized fitting system, which provides a safe, easy and quick way to install a child car seat without the need of car seat belts. The name ISOFIX stands for ISO (International Standardization Organization) plus FIX (Fixation). ISOFIX car seats make use of two standard attachment points at the base of the seat in the car, plus an anti-rotation device to prevent forward pitching: this can be either a support leg or top tether.
What is the right position for the headrest of my child car seat?
The child's head has to be totally protected and should not exceed the headrest.
What is the right position/height for the safety harness?
The harness straps should be placed at the level of the shoulders, not coming from above nor below. The headrest should be adjusted in consequence, keeping the harness at the level of the shoulders.
What should I do if my child opens the buckle of his safety harness?
In this case, we recommend that you stop immediately in a safe place, fasten the buckle once more and tell the child he should not open it and the reason for this. It is always a possibility that an inventive, handy or strong child will open the buckle. If the force required to open the buckle were to be considerably increased to make it impossible for the child to open it himself, this would be contrary to the legal safety standards. The position of the buckle, the colour of the button, and the operating or opening force are all determined in European standards.
When can I switch The Maxi-Cosi AxissFix from rearward to forward facing position ?
According to the new i-Size European (R129) regulation, children must travel rearward facing up to minimum 15 months. It means you can start switching from rearward to forward facing if your toddler is older than 15months, and minimum 76cm length. Maxi-Cosi strongly recommend you to keep your child rearward facing as long as possible and up to the limit age defined (87cm / approx. 2years), to better protect the baby's fragile head and neck in case of accidents. To help you to know when you can switch from rearward facing to forward facing, you can use the informative measuring scale located closed to the headrest.
When can my child switch from an infant car seat to the Maxi-Cosi AxissFix?
The Maxi-Cosi AxissFix is suitable for children from 61cm to 105cm (approx. 4months to 4years). Nevertheless, we encourage you to continue using an infant carrier as long as your child's head is still protected in the seat as it’s more convenient to move around with your baby (fits on car, but also on pushchairs) & will bring more comfort and safety to babies due to it ergonomic shape. When the head starts overtaking the shell of the infant carrier, the weight/size of your child exceeds the limit, or when you judge your toddler is too tight on the infant carrier, you can then move your toddler into the AxissFix. Swivel the seat in the rearward facing position until 87cm (approx. 2 years) for enhanced head and neck protection.
When should I remove the support pillow and head hugger from the Maxi-Cosi Pebble Plus?
The support pillow and headhugger are especially designed to offer a perfect fit for small babies. When the baby outgrows the smallest position of the safety harness (usually around 8 weeks) the support pillow can be removed. You can continue to use the headhugger for extra comfort of the baby longer. Then when you baby outgrows this headhugger you can also take it out the car seat entirely. Please consult the manual for a visualisation.
Where can I find the handle to adjust the recline position on the AxissFix/AxissFix Plus?
The recline handle can be found at the front of the seat, and can be used in all seat positions (rearward facing / facing you/ forward facing).
Where can I find the integrated sun canopy on the Maxi-Cosi Pebble Plus?
On the back of the Pebble Plus coming out from the rim you will find two small taps that are attached to the sun canopy. You can pull on these tabs to extract the sun canopy and attach it to the carrying handle.
Why do I need a car seat?
Cars are primarily designed for the transportation of adult statured persons and not for smaller sized children. Therefore children are more vulnerable in accidents and need a car seat to provide extra protection. Besides this, the use of an approved child car seat is required by law for all children up to a height of 1.35 or 1.50 metres depending on the country.
Why does the Maxi-Cosi 2wayFix need a support leg?
This support leg serves several functions. The support leg prevents the car seat from rotating (tipping) in the event of an accident. If the support leg is not used, the car seat may be pushed so deep into the seat of the car during a front-end collision that the child will be thrown forward and may even hit the front seat or dashboard. The support leg is equipped with an indicator that shows whether the installation is correct.
Why is the 2wayFix base physically bigger than other bases (such as the 2wayFix base)?
The 2wayFix base with the 2wayPearl car seat comply with i-Size, and in this new legislation dimensions of support legs are described in detail in order to provide an even better fit with cars. Together with car manufacturers these dimensions have been defined, and i-Size legislation will make sure that new i-Size car seats fit perfectly in future i-Size compliant cars. Since the 2wayFix base allows a rearward facing toddler car seat on it (with a child until 105 cm or approx. 18KG rearward facing), it has to withstand different and significantly higher forces in accidents. Much more weight is being exposed to this base in accidents, and therefore the product is strengthened in many different aspects.
Why the classification on the Maxi-Cosi AxissFix is now in length indication (cm) and not in weight (kg)?
The Maxi-Cosi AxissFix complies with the new i-Size (R129) regulation, and this change is part of i-Size. It is done in order to make it easier for parents to choose the right car seat for their child, and thereby minimize premature up-sizing of the car seat. The size will now be the new reference to choose the correct car seat. Nevertheless, weight are still taken in account as i-Size regulation also mentions that weight of the car seat + weight of the child should not overtake 33kg. Consequently, AxissFix car seat is suitable toddlers from 61 to 105cm length, and maximum 19kg weight.
Why the Maxi-Cosi AxissFix is not suitable from birth ?
The Maxi-Cosi AxissFix is a toddler car seat, designed to be used right after an infant carrier (group 0+). Suitable for toddlers from 61cm length (approx. 4months), the seat is not adapted for new born babies. This choice has been done according to the new i-Size (R129) regulation which has more demanding safety criteria, especially in frontal & lateral impact, and which make hardly impossible to offer the highest level of protection for new born as for toddler in one unique seat. To reach this high demanding safety criteria, and not compromise with comfort, AxissFix has been designed for toddlers from 61cm and not from birth.
Why there is a measuring scale (blue/red label) on the Maxi-cosi AxissFix cover ? How to read it ?
This measuring scale is an informative label to help you to know when it could be time to switch from rearward facing to forward facing. In a daily basis, it's not easy to know the exact size of your growing baby, and you may want to install quickly your child in forward facing because it's easier to see you child. Nevertheless, you child should not place before at least 15months in forward facing. The goal of this label is clearly to avoid babies to be installed too early in forward facing position. By adjusting the headrest, you will see if the seat has still to be installed rearward facing (blue color) or can be installed forward facing (red color). Of course, it's an indicator, but you should always check if your child measure more than 76cm, and has more than 15 months before installing the seat in forward facing position.
Will the AxissFix/Plus fit in my car?
The AxissFix/AxissFix Plus is an i-Size car seat. It is approved to the regulation R129, and fits in most of the vehicles equipped with ISOFIX with Top Tether, and on all i-Size compatible vehicle seating positions. We invite you to check in your car instruction manual if your car is equipped with 3 point ISOFIX (2 IISOFIX anchorages and 1 Top Tether) or consult our online Car Fitting List
Can I install the 2wayPearl on the front passenger seat?
Yes if the car has ISOFIX anchor points on the front seat. When you use the 2wayPearl rearward facing it is important to always deactivate the airbag. When you use the 2wayPearl forward facing we recommend to deactivate the airbag or placing the front passenger seat in the rearmost position. Most cars, however, are not fitted with ISOFIX anchor points on the front passenger seat. This means that it is often not possible to install the car seat on the passenger seat.
Can I use the Pebble or CabrioFix on the 2wayFix base?
Yes you can use the CabrioFix and Pebble on the 2wayFix base. This combination is officially homologated under ECE R44-04 legislation. The Maxi-Cosi Pebble Plus on the 2wayFix base though is an even safer combination that provides i-Size (R129) safety. For new parents we therefore recommend to always use the 2wayFix with the Pebble Plus infant carrier.
Can the 2wayFix base be installed in any car?
The 2wayFix can be installed in most cars equipped with the ISOFIX system. There are however some exceptions to this. Please consult our Car Fitting List
Does the Pearl fit and the 2wayFix base, and does the 2wayPearl fit on the FamilyFix base?
The 2wayPearl does not fit on the FamilyFix base, and is part of a different safety concept together with the 2wayFix base. Likewise the Pearl does not fit on the 2wayFix base, and forms a tested safety concept together with the FamilyFix base. Both products really physically do not fit on the 'wrong' base, and therefore misuse of consumers is prevented.
CabrioFix and Pebble infant carriers do fit on both the FamilyFix and 2wayFix base, and have been extensively tested to ensure an outstanding safety performance.
From when can I use the 2wayPearl forward facing?
We recommend using the 2wayPearl as long as possible (until 105 cm or approx. 4 years) in a rearward facing position since this enhances the safety for your child in frontal collisions. The 2wayPearl can be used though in a forward facing position when your child is at least 15 months old. By then the child’s neck is strong enough to withstand the impulsive force of an average frontal collision.
What is the best way to store the support leg?

I am unable to adjust the headrest on the 2wayPearl. What should I do?
The headrest is also used to adjust the height of the shoulder belts. To adjust the headrest, you need to first open the belt buckle, flap it forward, and then loosen the shoulder belts. If you hold down the button behind the grey part of the cover, you can adjust the headrest by moving it up or down.
I cannot recline the 2wayPearl installed forward facing in the sleeping position because it interferes with the car seat bench. What can I do?
You can disconnect the ISOFIX anchors of the 2wayFix, place the 2wayPearl on it and put it in the sleeping position. Then, reconnect the ISOFIX anchors to the car.
I notice that there is some play between the 2wayPearl and the 2wayFix. Is this safe?
To ensure that the 2wayPearl can always easily be installed onto the 2wayFix there must be some play between the tubes and hooks. This play does not affect safety in any way whatsoever
Is it still safe to use the 2wayFix if the batteries have gone dead?
Once installed, the safety performance is not affected by the batteries; the lights and sound serve only to indicate correct or incorrect installation. When the batteries are low in voltage, this will be indicated by the LED light visually and by a sound warning. You can change the batteries easily from the bottom of the 2wayFix base. On average, the batteries will last for approximately 2 years.

When using the 2wayPearl in a rearward-facing position, the maximal recline position may only be used for a child with a maximum length of 97cm.
What does the ">15m" indicator on the display mean?
The >15m stands for "only to be used in this position as of minimally 15 months old". This is in line with the new i-Size legislation that prescribes to only start transporting children in cars forward facing when they are over 15 months old. By then the child’s neck is strong enough to withstand the impulsive force of an average frontal collision.
What does the airbag warning indicator on the display mean?
This indicator communicates to turn off an airbag when the 2wayFix is positioned on the front passenger seat. Using a rear facing car seat in the presence of an active frontal airbag is even not allowed by law. This is for the reason that if it was to inflate, it would expose the child to forces equivalent to a heavy crash and can cause severe injuries or even death. Most cars though do not have ISOFIX anchorages on front passenger seats.
What is the function of the anti-rebound bar on the 2wayFix?

Why is the classification on the 2wayPearl height and not weight?
